Microsoft announced a new partnership with WordPress.com today to make WordPress.com the default blogging platform for Windows Live.

The partnership, which knits together Windows Live Spaces and WordPress.com, will allow for deep Windows Live integration with WordPress.com. Windows Live will allow content to be posted directly to WordPress from Windows Live, and all new content published on WordPress will be cross-posted on users’ Windows Live profile.

The new partnership is a win-win for both companies. While Windows Live Spaces is somewhat of an underrated platform, Windows Live’s Director of Project Management Dharmesh Mehra says that there are over 30 million Windows Live Spaces blogs. This new infusion of users will greatly strengthen WordPress.com’s standing in the blogosphere, as it will apparently hugely increase the total number of WordPress.com blogs.

The Windows Live Connect feature that this partnership will employ also expands Microsoft’s reach. By allowing existing WordPress.com users to sync their content with a Windows Live profile, Microsoft hopes that existing WordPress.com users will begin using Windows Live services.

Whether this will take a chunk out of Blogger and Google’s market share remains to be seen. However, at the very least, the personal blogging market just got a bit more interesting.

Not only will you save a few bucks (depending on the size of your compact flash card), but converting your hard drive will also extend your iPod’s battery life and make your iPod significantly lighter (also no moving parts, which means your iPod is less likely to break). We’ll show you how, after the jump.

Trojan Blackmails PC Owners

Posted: September 15, 2010 in Cyber Crime

So you thought it was just you and your laptop who knew about your profound interest in the porn entertainment and all illegal downloads carried out on your system? May be yes, but if the big mouthed “Kenzero” finds it all, the secret will soon be revealed out to the world.

Kenzero is a new Japanese Trojan that has lately been harassing its targets, threatening them to publish their browser history and demanding them cash to seal its lips. The trojan virus that installs itself on computers uses a popular file-share service called Winny, that has up to 200m users. the prime targets are those downloading illegal copies of games in the Hentai genre, an explicit form of anime.

Masquerading as a game installation screen, it requests the PC owner’s personal details and then attempts to wrest money from them. It demands a credit card payment of 1500 yen (£10) to “settle your violation of copyright law” and remove the webpage. Those falling for it have not only had their browser history, favorites, illegally-downloaded porn, and clipboard content posted to a public Website but have also lost their credit card information, that these hackers sell to the highest bidders.

Around 5500 people have already admitted to being infected.

With the illegitimate downloads still forming a major portion of the media consumption, it does give hackers the perfect opportunity to pounce on and churn out some profits over other’s mistakes.

There are times when working with vector images is what’s called for. Of course, there are also times (like photography) when you have to go with raster images. Vector images can be blown up to any size without loss of quality. Raster (or Bitmap) images become jagged when made larger.

There are some mediums like Flash animation, print ads, clipart, and logo art which lend itself to the vector graphic format for its elastic nature. It is also very easy to convert from vector to raster formats, but the same ease doesn’t hold true vice-versa.

From vector illustrations to 3D drawings, vector images find a lot of creative uses.
But creating detailed vector images takes patience and skill. You might be creating something as simple as an icon, or as cool as a T-shirt design. Having a stock of readymade vector images is a shortcut. If you are a designing greenhorn or an old hand, check out these ten resources for some inspiration and free vector art downloads.

I received numerous emails about my iTunes 10 review, which is exceedingly negative and, in my opinion, deservedly so. Fortunately, most of the feedback I received indicates that readers are fed up with iTunes as well, and amusingly, a few of the emails I got noted that it was just as bad on the Mac, tossing cold water on my fanciful conspiracy theory. So iTunes is junk. But what are you going to do?

This is a question I’ve pondered for years, but with iTunes 10 throwing down the stink so egregiously, I’m actually starting to think that the time has come for an anti-iTunes movement. The problem is, there’s no single obvious solution.

There are various third party tools that let you sync some content with some iPods via Windows Media Player. The one I sort-of recommended in the past is Mediafour XPlay 3, but it doesn’t work with the most desirable, modern i-devices like the iPhone and the iPod touch. And a reader recommended a weird little tool called MGTEK dopisp, but it only syncs music. Neither of these fills the need, in my opinion.

But even if they did, it’s unlikely that you’d be able to ignore iTunes if you’re still using an iPhone, an iPod touch, and/or an iPad. There’s just too much content on iTunes, including music, movies, TV shows, apps, podcasts, audiobooks, and iTunes U audio and video recordings. There’s no point in using an Apple device if you’re not going to take advantage of the store. And while it’s possible to access some of that content via the devices, you can’t ignore iTunes on the PC/Mac completely.
